Wiggly Skyscape plus-minus Canvas by aartika-fractal-art

Add this layer to your Ultra Fractal image to make it look like it's been painted on canvas (example above).

For use in Ultra Fractal

Ultra Fractal 5 Stamp by aartika-fractal-art

This tutorial uses Texture and Yorke plug-ins in mt.ulb with Plug-in Coloring (Gradient) in Standard.ucl, and will work with any Pixel formula.

Suitable for beginners.

STEP 1:

  • Select and copy everything from "Layers" to the last curly bracket, then paste it as a new layer in the fractal you are working on.
Layers {
layer:
  caption="Canvas Texture" opacity=60 mergemode=overlay
mapping:
  center=42.60488862/-29.28525161 magn=0.04

  maxiter=250 filename="Standard.ufm" entry="GenericFormula"
  p_formulaClass="Standard.ulb:Standard_Pixel"
  p_formulaClass.v_generic=100 p_formulaClass.v_formula=100
  p_formulaClass.p_power=0/0

  transfer=none
outside:

gradient:
  smooth=yes rotation=104 index=438 color=0 index=268 color=16777215
opacity:
  smooth=no index=0 opacity=255
}

STEP 2:

  • To paste the layer, either right-click on the top layer in the Fractal Properties window and select Paste, or Click Shift+Alt+V:

  • Adjust the merge mode of the layer to achieve the visual texture effect you want (Overlay or Soft Light will probably work best).
  • Adjust the parameter setting of the Outside Colouring algorithm to achieve different effects.
  • Save your fractal in the usual way.

STEP 3:

To save this layer as a Fractal file or Parameter file:

  • Copy everything below from "Canvas" to the last curly bracket, and paste into an open Fractal window.
  • Save the file as a *ufr or *upr file: File > Save as

STEP 4:

The Canvas Texture layer can be copied from your saved file file as below:
  • Either right-click on the Canvas Texure layer in the Fractal Properties window and select Copy, or Click Shift+Alt+C:

Then paste the layer into the fractal you are working on as in Step 1 and 2, above.

Ultra Fractal Tutorial: Create a New Gradient File
This is quickie tutorial for beginners (and maybe for those old timers who've been using Ultra Fractal so long they've forgotten how!) on How to Create a New Gradient File in Ultra Fractal.
At the end of the tutorial you will have a nice set of colourful gradients to choose from for when you're stuck for ideas, and be able to apply them to the Fractal files you are working on.
As your experience with using Ultra Fractal grows you will find that more and more you will create and edit the gradients you are working with "on the hoof", but to start with it's a good idea to have a range of gradients to choose from as you're learning.
It's also useful to know how to save Gradients you've made while working on an image for repeat use at a later time.
Remember the Help file in UF is also very extensive, and will assist you further in creating and editing your Gradients manually.

One word
  Gradients: Multi-Hue Ink Washes for Ultra Fractal
This is a set of multi-hue "Ink Wash" Gradients for use in Ultra Fractal.

They are adapted from this set of single hue gradients designed to mimic Alcohol Ink Washes.

You are welcome to download and use this, and to adapt the individual gradients for your own requirements :) (Smile)
Scroll down for a couple of Demo parameter sets.
No restrictions on use.
To Save the Gradient File:
Copy and paste all the text below, starting with 01 and ending with the final curly bracket, into a plain text file (eg Notepad) or the Ultra Fractal Editor, and save as Multi-Hue Ink Washes.ugr in your Gradients folder:
01 - Flame {
; Ink Wash Gradient - Multi Hue

  title="01 - Flame" linked=yes smooth=yes rotation=9 index=31
  color=4274513 index=-369 color=3352901 index=50 color=3549294
